The Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (CEERE) was based in the UMass Amherst Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from 1997 until it merged with the Energy Transition Institute (ETI) in 2024.

CEERE was founded by Mechanical Engineering Professor Lawrence Ambs and led by Director Dragoljub (Beka) Kosanovic for nearly two decades after Professor Ambs’ retirement.

Selected CEERE programming, including operation of Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Partnership and collaboration with UMass Clean Energy Extension, continues under the leadership of former CEERE Associate Director Lauren Mattison, now ETI Director of Technical Services and Applied Research.

Learn more about CEERE’s legacy of leadership in research, deployment and training on clean energy technologies in this announcement and below.
