Enabling a sustainable and equitable energy future

Transitioning rapidly away from fossil fuels presents a massive opportunity to design and choose equitable pathways to a net-zero energy system. We believe this transformation can lead to new industries, job creation, and broadly shared benefits for all members of society. Our researchers are tackling complex problems arising from the energy transition, using their expertise in physical and life sciences, engineering, social sciences, and the humanities.

Sustainable Energy @
UMass Amherst

Working together, these key campus units spanning five colleges have made UMass Amherst the place to be for learning and applying sustainable energy knowledge, both regionally and nationally.

Training and Mentorship

The ELEVATE program offers Ph.D. fellowships for students to research resilience and equity in the transition to renewable energy.

Community Engagement

We partner with communities and other stakeholders to co-create knowledge and energy solutions.

Bridging Disciplines

The energy transition needs all hands on deck. We engage with scholars in all fields of study to encourage collaboration and convergence.
